Year 8 Readers Cup Team 2018
A team of enthusiastic Year 8’s - Ruby Smith, Olivia Ellis, Scott Roy and Mason White stepped up to the challenge of preparing for the Sunshine Coast Readers Cup Competition held at Chancellor State College last Thursday, 7 June. Participating in the competition was a great opportunity for building teamwork, encouraging others to enjoy a new book genre and immersing yourself in a new world that an author created just for readers to enjoy.
The Challenge - Reading 6 books in less than 10 weeks and being quiz-ready to team up against 18 other schools. The Choices - A range of books from different genres including fantasy, adventure, realistic fiction and history were selected for team study for the competition. The Outcome - the challenge of 20 teams racing to answer each question within the 20 second time limit made for an exciting evening of competing for the Readers Cup Prize. Our team performed well in the challenging first round of heats, but unfortunately did not qualify for the final round. Our students are commended for their commitment to reading the books, for regularly meeting to work on book study and memory strategies and for their teamwork on the night. The winning team from Mountain Creek State High School will now prepare for the Readers Cup State Final to be held in Brisbane in September. Favourite books from the Competition Sometimes it’s hard to pick a favourite book when there’s so many great authors and stories to choose from. However, the books from this year’s competition are certainly highly recommended by our Readers Cup Team and also Mrs Morris! Well done to the team for great team work, a 'can-do' attitude, no matter the obstacle. |
