Literature Circles
In Year 6 students have the opportunity to take part in Literature Circles as part of their iDiscover lessons. Literature circles are a fantastic way for students to share about a book they are reading with their peers.
At the start of the selected term students will have the opportunity to choose a book from a selection of Literature Circle titles. Groups will be formed and they will begin reading their LC book. Students will then be required to a read a section of their book each week and to complete an activity. During weekly library lessons the groups will meet to discuss their work. During the Literature Circle unit students are expected to keep up with the weekly reading schedule and activities, and to bring their reading log to their weekly iDiscover lesson. Reading is an excellent way to develop new vocabulary that can be used in speaking and writing. Students are encouraged to keep a record of impressive words they read during Literature Circles and to find out the meaning of new words. |
