Voices on the Coast
Voices on the Coast offers a unique cultural experience for students and a wide range of presentations and workshops by leading authors, illustrators and poets, inspiring young people to enjoy the world of reading, writing, drawing and performing. The event is presented by Immanuel Lutheran College and the University of Sunshine Coast. The excursion is a wonderful event and students enjoy the festival atmosphere. Students are always keen to purchase books or to get their own copies signed by the visiting authors.
In May 2013 we held our inaugural excursion to the Voices on the Coast Youth Literature Festival and the group that attended thoroughly enjoyed their day. It is now a highlight of the College calendar. Each year to celebrate the Festival a book called Small But Loud Voices is compiled to showcase young writers’ work from across the Sunshine Coast. The anthology is a compilation of poetry, narrative and illustrative works. In 2014 we took part in producing work for the anthology and families were able to purchase copies of the completed book.
The 2015 program has just been released and we look forward to taking a group of Secondary students to attend this fantastic day of meeting authors, watching illustrators at work and hearing some excellent literary presentations!
