PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE (For Prep – Year 9 Students)
The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual event that takes place in Term 2 and 3. The Premier challenges every student from Prep to Year 4 to read 20 books and Years 5 to 9 to read 15 books, between May and September Students who complete the Challenge will receive a signed certificate from the Premier.
Term 2 Week 5 - Monday 14 May 2018: Reading period commences for Prep to Year 9 students
Term 3 Week 6 - Friday 24 August 2018: Reading period finishes for Prep to Year 9 students.
Term 3 Week 7 - Monday 27 August 2018: Student reading records due back at the Library.
Parents and caregivers play an important role in encouraging students to develop a love of reading. Here are some ideas to promote reading at home:

- make time to read aloud to your child every day, even for a few minutes
- show the importance of reading in your daily life and let your child see you read - not only books but recipes, newspapers and text messages for example
- browse a bookstore or the Scholastic Book Club brochure together
- ensure reading time is fun and exciting
- visit the local library and let your child choose some books to borrow
