Our new goals for words read in 2020!
- Students can only do quizzes for books they’ve read this term.
- Students may not read books more than 100 points below their lexile level, but there is no ceiling for book choice above their level, as long as it's in their star range. *See star levels below.
- Three quizzes are allowed per day for everyone.
- Students have 2 chances to pass a quiz (one attempt per day). Pass mark is 7 out of 10.
- Students with a Lexile level of BR - 290 (Beginner Reader) can borrow 2 Lexiles at a time.
- Students with a Lexile level of 850 - 1000+ can choose Lexiles from 700.
- Use the home symbol to look for library titles on the Literacy Pro website.
- Use books from our school library, at home, from Book Club or your local library, but make sure they support the Christian ethos of the College. Please check with your teacher or library staff if you're unsure, as some quizzes are not permitted. Always check that they have a quiz first.
- All students can track their results online with the “My Results Tab” on Literacy Pro. Year 3 students are encouraged to use the LitPro folder to record a tally of their books read and to collect stamps each time they borrow.
- Students need to borrow regularly and read every day to earn points to reach achievement levels throughout the year.
What is Literacy Pro?
Literacy Pro is an individualised reading program designed to encourage students to read texts matched to their abilities, allowing them to gain valuable reading practice and build comprehension skills. The Literacy Pro program replaces the Home Reader program used in Prep - Year 2 and consistent progress is expected throughout the year. Each child will complete a Lit Pro comprehension test and receive a Lexile level at the start of the year. Subsequent Lit Pro tests will be taken throughout the year to monitor progress.
Lexiled books are available for loan in the library and can be borrowed before and after school, at first and second break or during iDiscover lessons. Students are required to read Lexiled texts and complete the matching quizzes, working towards set point goals. Students may not read books more than 100 points below their lexile level, but there is no ceiling for book choice above their level, as long as it's in their star range. Students identified as needing extra support will read within a differentiated target range as discussed on an individual basis.
* Star Reading Levels (Noted on Lexile book covers)
Red Stars: Year 3 & 4
Green Stars: Year 3 & 4 (Silver Star for Year 4 students on Lexile 850+)
Silver: Year 5 & 6
Gold: Year 6 Only
Lit Pro Quizzes
Quizzes can be completed at home or school via the Literacy Pro login on the GCCHub (password - eagle). Once quizzes are completed, points will be awarded and can be viewed in the “My Results Tab” on the Literacy Pro website.
